The 5 Supplements Every Fitness Enthusiast Should Take
In the midst of my fitness journey, during which I shed a whopping 100 pounds and built substantial muscle mass, I stumbled upon a handful of supplements that remarkably simplified my journey. They boosted my recovery time, hastened muscle growth, and facilitated a mental focus that I had previously lacked. Here, I’ll be sharing these 5 supplements which you won’t want to miss in your fitness journey.
Note that protein isn’t included in this list. It’s a no-brainer that protein, being the primary building block in muscle development, is non-negotiable in anyone’s fitness routine. Instead, the list emphasizes other lesser-known but equally critical supplements.
“Your fitness goal isn’t just about hitting the gym, it’s about nourishing your body with the right supplements.”
Tackling Dark Circles: Topical Aids
Treating dark circles involves a two-step strategy. We start by using topical aids followed by targeted techniques and supplements to hit at the root cause. I knocked out dark circles and have kept them at bay by addressing the central issue.

For topical aids, I recommend kojic acid and vitamin C. Simply wash your face with a kojic acid soap, then apply a vitamin C serum under your eyes. This simple routine, over a couple of weeks, dramatically brightens the under-eye area. Other useful topical remedies include products with niacinamide or cucumber extract, renowned for their pigment suppression properties.
1. L-theanine
First up is L-theanine; an amino acid predominantly found in green tea and mushrooms. It’s most known for alleviating symptoms of insomnia, anxiety, and stress.
Why it’s Important
For one, it tremendously enhances sleep quality. It’s common knowledge that sleep is pivotal for muscle recovery and growth. Workouts tear down the muscles, signaling our brains that we need to build larger muscles. However, resting and nutrient absorption (especially protein) are what actually build the muscle. Taking L-theanine promotes a sound sleep, minimizes sleep disturbances, and reduces stress which overall, contributes to efficient muscle building.

In our caffeine-loving society, we tend to overlook the jittery repercussions of our favorite brew. Ltheanine counteracts these effects helping you sleep better even if you’ve had caffeine later in the day. It also aids in focusing in the gym, which can help you be more present and effective in your workouts.

Typically, a dosage of about 200 milligrams of ltheanine is recommended.

2. Creatine
Creatine is the most cost-effective, researched, and effective supplement in the market today. It aids in muscle mass growth, strength increase and better exercise performance.
Why it’s Important
Busting the myth right here – creatine does not cause baldness. Also, only people with kidney problems might have an unfavorable reaction to creatine. It’s generally safe for most people.

Among its notable benefits, creatine hydrates your muscles making them fuller and boosts your ATP levels giving you more energy. Plus, studies have shown that creatine helps in muscle repair and growth, boosts your workload, and raises your IGF one levels promoting muscle building.

Dosage-wise, it is recommended to have a loading phase with about 21 grams of creatine for seven days and a maintenance phase that includes 5 grams every day.

3. Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha, an adaptogen, is a substance known for helping the body manage stress. Don’t fall for the myth that it increases testosterone levels substantially, but it does help manage cortisol levels effectively.
Why it’s Important
can make you a calmer and more productive individual. It also supports better athletic performance and sets you in the right frame of mind to enjoy intimate moments with your partner.

For optimal benefits, take about 600 milligrams of Ashwagandha root extract daily.
5. Shilajit
Lastly, despite being less popular globally, Shilajit is a common supplement in my home country, Sri Lanka. This sticky compound is found in the Himalayas and is essentially decomposed organic matter.
Why it’s Important
Fulvic acid, a powerful antioxidant and the primary component of Shilajit, has many health benefits. It helps prevent tau protein accumulation that can cause brain cell damage. Shilajit increases testosterone and boosts mental focus; it is also beneficial in preventing premature aging.

I found these dietary supplements to be invaluable on my fitness journey, and incorporate them consistently. If you too want to boost your fitness progression, give these a try.
